Relational Canvassing

Let’s stop frantically door knocking to strangers just before an election. Instead, let’s build lasting connections year-round in our neighborhoods--that last beyond 1 election cycle.

By becoming a Block Captain, you are provided the closest 50 people to your home - we call this your Home Turf!  Who are these 50 people? They are your like-minded neighbors, open to supporting Democrats-- but who have NOT been voting!

How do we build relationships with these neighbors? How do we turn non-voters into voters? This can’t just happen in a single conversation at the door. In fact, we are not even going to talk about voting at the door, or even in ANY initial conversations!

As a Block Captain, you will start SMALL with your 50 people. Around 5 people at a time--and invite them to meet-up with you at another date/time! To build actual connections requires that we move those conversations away from their door.

The data is clear. The Voter Turnout Metrics are LOW. This is because campaign strategies prioritize transactional metrics of quantity (for example.. #s of doors knocked, calls made, or texts sent).  There was a time this had a positive impact. But now more than ever before, we need to prioritize the numbers of relationships built and sustained.

Your work as a Blue Action Block Captain is on your own schedule.

Here’s what happens:

  1. Fill out a membership form. You can also come to an informational session before you register- totally optional!

  2. Submit a $25 biennial membership fee to ensure we can keep this program going - from hard costs of materials like door lit & shipping to software. Fee waivers available! We do not want cost to be a burden! Email us.

  3. Come to an onboarding to train on the Reach APP--This is where you will receive your 50 people! ALSO, this serves as a volunteer hub and plugs you into other important action items!

  4. Begin Door Knocking as early as August 2025! Pick up door LIT and materials from a local Blue Action Regional Leader near you, or, we will ship materials to you. You are not alone. Handbooks, training, staff & community support provided.

  5. Arrange meet-ups with ~5 people at a time. Examples could be at a coffee shop, community park potluck, local restaurant, etc. The goal?  What are they concerned about? What do they care about? And, express what you care about! We will go over this in handbooks and in training together!

  6. Continue to meet your neighbors where they are at--leading up to 2026 midterms and beyond! Do they want to meet again? In 2-3 months maybe? Maybe a book club, movie night? Volunteer community service together? Candidate forums? Letters to representatives? Letters to neighbors?

Will you join us in doing things differently? It may feel like a small effort, but it will be impactful. Let’s get it done together.
